Mirza Ghalib

Ghalib born Mirza Asadullah Baig Khan, on 27 December 1797 – died 15 February 1869, was the preeminent Indian Urdu and Persian poet during the last years of the Mughal Empire. He used his pen-names of Ghalib and Asad. Wikipedia

Note: This is a 'qataah' written by Ghalib after Bahadur Shah Zafar's son (Dara Shikoh I think, but I am not sure) recovered from what many thought would be a fatal illness. The recovery, of the prince is equated to the return of spring, and nature in all its beauty seems to be, celebrating along with the rest of the world. Some say it was the emperor himself whose, recovery prompted this qataah from Ghalib.,

Ghalib is not known to be a 'nature' poet. This is one of the rare instances where he has, used his poetic skills to descibe nature.,

maanaa-e-dasht naavardii ko_ii tadabiir nahii.n 

nahii.n ki mujhako qayaamat kaa etiqaad nahii.n 

maharabaa.N ho ke bulaa lo mujhe chaaho jis waqt 

kal_katte kaa jo zikr kiyaa tuune ham_nashii.n

ibn-e-mariyam huaa kare koii 

taskii.N ko ham na roe.n jo zauq-e-nazar mile

husn Gamze kii kashaakash se chhuTaa mere

Kii vafaa hamase to Gair use jafaa kahate hai.n 

ishq taasiir se naumed nahii.n 

koii din gar zi.ndaganii aur hai

kyo.nkar us but se rakhuu.N jaan aziiz

laazim thaa ki dekho meraa rastaa koii din aur

maze jahaa.N ke apanii nazar me.n Khaak nahii.n

muddat huii hai yaar ko mahamaa.N kiye hue

naqsh fariyaadii hai kis kii shoKhii-e-tahariir kaa 

na hogaa yak bayaabaa.N maa.Ndagii se zauq kam meraa 

na huii gar mere marane se tasallii na sahii

na thaa kuchh to Khudaa thaa, kuchh na

phir is a.ndaaz se bahaar aa_ii 

phir mujhe diidaa-e-tar yaad aayaa

rahiye ab aisii jagah chalakar jahaa.N koii na ho

jaur se baaz aaye par baaz aaye.n kyaa

sab kahaa.N kuchh laalaa-o-gul me.n numaayaa.N ho gaii.n
